Today, we ventured back into the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in search of Catopsis and Werauhia. We found another grand fig tree to climb. As we set down our tarp for our gear, we saw this little beauty (pictured on the left). I don't know mushrooms well, but if anyone can ID this, I would love to know what species it is. We had a few other wildlife sightings today. While we were rigging our first tree, I caught a video of a visiting Slaty-backed Nightingale Thrush. And then, best of all, at the top of our first climb we got an amazing look at the Resplendent Quetzal. It was singing its heart out, and was definitely the best look at the Quetzal I have ever gotten. See below for some crummy pictures I took with my phone in the tree top. Our second climb of the day was also exciting. We set up on a tree along one of the trails in the reserve. A few unsuspecting visitors passing through checked out our climb and our gear. See below for more photos from today. |
